MIAMI, Florida – The 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League is off and running, beginning with the opening match last Thursday between Anguilla and Dominica. Presiding over the match at Raymond E. Guishard Stadium in The Valley, Anguilla for Thursday’s opening contest of the second edition of the tournament was Girdon Connor, President of the Anguilla Football Association. Also in attendance was Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio, who enjoyed a very competitive 0-0 draw between the two teams in Group C of League C.

President Girdon Connor knows first-hand the benefits of the Concacaf Nations League as he actually played in the first edition of the tournament, representing Anguilla.

The opening 2022/23 CNL match was a historical day for Anguilla football, as the point earned by the home side was the first ever point for Anguilla in CNL action.

“It was a privilege to attend the opening 2022-23 CNL match in Anguilla and I want to sincerely thank President Connor and everyone at the Anguilla Football Association for being excellent hosts”, said Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio. “It was a very competitive match between two teams that have fully embraced this competition and the huge benefits it is bringing to developing men’s national team football in Concacaf”, added Moggio.

The following day on Friday, also at Raymond E. Guishard Stadium, Moggio was in attendance for the opening home match of Saint Martin against Aruba in Group B of League C, who played to a scoreless draw.
