SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador The El Salvador National Team took another step toward its goal of reaching the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup with a 3-0 victory over Barbados on Matchday Two of 2019/20 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying.

For Head Coach Carlos de los Cobos, it was his first victory at home in his second stint as national team coach and it places El Salvador among the top 10 teams in the 34-team CNL table at present.

“We hope to be among the best 10 that qualify for the Gold Cup,” said De Los Cobos in his post-match press conference.

“We were an aggressive team, we controlled the pace of play and that’s what we aimed to do. It’s not easy when a team is compact in defense, above all when they are strong, tall; it’s tough, but the reality is that the boys did well, they penetrated on the wings, opened the field and that’s how the first goal was scored,” added De Los Cobos.

FW Oscar Ceren also spoke with reporters following the contest and hailed the support provided by the fans on Saturday night at the Estadio Cuscatlan.

“The fans responded and came to support us. That motives us to keep going forward. There are still things to improve but we leave satisfied with the job. In the end we did what the coach wanted,” said Ceren

El Salvador returns to action in the CNL on Matchday Three on November 16 when they visit Bermuda.
