LAS VEGAS, Nevada Mexico’s road to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup has been full of challenges and difficult moments, but in the end, El Tricolor managed to secure their place in the Final with a chance for a ninth Gold Cup crown against the United States.

Sunday night’s encounter at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will cap a busy summer for Mexico, and considering everything that his squad has been through, Mexico Head Coach Gerardo Martino hailed the dedication of his players both on and off the field.

“I would highlight the desire of the players to be there, the desire to belong, the desire that once again Mexico is playing in the Final and of course to continue growing football-wise. It is a group of very committed players, and that is very important to have when it comes to trying to win titles,” said Martino in an interview with Concacaf.com.

The U.S. team that Martino’s Mexico will face on Sunday will be largely different than the side that took the field in the Final of the 2021 Concacaf Nations League Finals in early June.

While the faces of the U.S. team are mostly different, with the exception of players like MF Kellyn Acosta, MF Sebastian Lletget and DF Reggie Cannon, Martino believes the approach and style of Gregg Berhalter’s team will remain the same.

“I don’t think there is a difference in their football. Gregg’s team have a defined way of playing. I believe there is not a difference in how one team plays versus the other. There are players who are going to play tomorrow who also played against us in the Final of the Nations League, and so we expect a very similar playing style tomorrow,” concluded Martino.
