KINGSTON, JAMAICA. - The Jamaican National Team revealed their roster for the upcoming Gold Cup and it consists of seven Major League Soccer players, with three of them belonging to the Philadelphia Union.

Jamaica’s team captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake will return to the national team since he last played in October 2019. Blake is considered a staple in Jamaica’s recent strives to become one of the best teams in the Caribbean and to be taken as a true contender to win the Gold Cup. The goalkeeper has 45 caps with Jamaica and has become a constant since his debut, including winning the Golden Glove in the 2017 tournament.

His fellow MLS teammate, Cory Burke, is also part of the final list that will be participating in the Gold Cup. The striker has 18 caps with the national team and has scored has five goals, but none in a Gold Cup, most coming in the Concacaf Nations League qualifying games.

Alvas Powell is the third player from Union and is part of the squad in charge of taking Jamaica to the finals. The defender made his debut with the senior team in 2012 and prior to that played in the youth teams. Powell has scored for Jamaica, helping them beat Guyana 4-0 in the 2019-2020 Concacaf Nations League.

Other MLS teams that will be represented in the Jamaican squad are Inter Miami, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Toronto FC.

In their last appearance in the Gold Cup in 2019, Jamaica reached the semifinals but was eliminated by the United States with a final score of 1-3.

Although Jamaica did not win in 2019, it did mark their third straight semi-final finish in a Gold Cup. In 2015 and 2017 Jamaica was a finalist but failed to take the victory. Being able to finally call the Gold Cup theirs, Jamaica has an extra push to capture the elusive cup.
