Curacao edges Martinique for spot in Caribbean Cup final

FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique – Curacao scored two goals in the second half to rally for a 2-1 win over host Martinique in the Scotiabank CFU Men’s Caribbean Cup semifinals on Thursday night at the Stade Pierre-Aliker.

With the result, the Curacaoans will seek their first regional title in Sunday’s final against defending champion Jamaica, which topped French Guiana earlier in the evening, 4-2 on penalty kicks, after a 1-1 draw.

-    Martinique took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on Yoann Arquin’s third goal of the competition.
-    Curacao responded with a pair of second-half goals to seal the victory.  Gevaro Nepomuceno converted a penalty kick to equalize in the 57th minute, while Rangelo Janga netted the game-winner in the 76th minute.
-    Before falling to Curacao, Martinique had opened the 2016/17 Caribbean Cup with six straight wins.
-    Curacao will appear in its first Caribbean Cup final on Sunday against Jamaica.
-    Martinique will face French Guiana in the match for third place, also on Sunday.
