Intriguing match-ups on tap in CFC quarterfinals

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – The 2021 Concacaf Futsal Championship continues on Friday at the Domo Polideportivo de la CDAG in Guatemala City, Guatemala with four very intriguing quarterfinal match-ups on the docket.

The day will start with the United States taking on a Dominican Republic side that is making its debut in the CFC and has accomplished the feat of reaching the knockout round.

Marco Gomez is the man to watch for the Caribbean side with four goals in the tournament, while the U.S. can rely on the likes of Julian Escobar, who had a hat trick in the 4-2 group stage finale win over El Salvador.

Next up will be an explosive Panama team squaring off with Canada. The Canaleros scored 16 goals in their two group stage wins, with Carlos Perez notching a hat trick in each, and now they will look to keep the goals flowing against the North Americans.

Ian Bennett, with two goals thus far, will lead a Canada team that has conceded just seven goals in the tournament.

Playing in their first CFC since 2004, Suriname have earned the moniker of comeback kids after rallying from a 3-0 deficit against Mexico in the group stage in a 5-4 comeback victory.

Suriname will now take on reigning CFC champions Costa Rica, who have stifled opponents, allowing just one goal in two games.

The day will then be rounded out by host nation Guatemala facing El Salvador in what should be a very close contest.

Alan Aguilar leads the Chapines with three goals in the tournament, but will have to contend with an El Salvador defense that has yielded just four goals.
