2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship: All You Need to Know

MIAMI – Nicaragua will welcome the best teams in the region for the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship from April 13-20, with every match taking place at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua, Nicaragua.

The tournament will crown the next champion of Futsal in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, and determine the Confederation’s four spots in the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024.

Here is everything you need to know about the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship.

What

The 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship is the eight edition of Concacaf’s Futsal international competition and will involve 12 teams.

The 12 participating nations are as follows:

  • Nicaragua (hosts)
  • Canada
  • Cuba
  • Costa Rica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Guatemala
  • Haiti
  • Mexico
  • Panama
  • Suriname
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • United States

When 

The 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship is scheduled to take place from April 13-20 at the Polideportivo Alexis Arguello in Managua, Nicaragua. The Final will be played April 20 to crown the champion.

History 

Since 1996, the Concacaf Futsal Championship has been held every four years, crowning a champion, and serving as a qualifying competition for the FIFA Futsal World Cup.

Before the 2024 Championship kicks off, 113 matches have been played and 809 goals have been scored in the history of the tournament.

Costa Rica is the most decorated nation in the tournament's history, with four titles. The Ticos are also the defending champions after winning in 2021 and are searching for a fourth consecutive championship.

The United States won the inaugural edition and are the next all-time winner with two. Guatemala is the only other nation to lift the trophy, doing so in 2008.

Cuba has come very close to lifting the title, finishing as runners-up in four editions of the tournament in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008.  Panama has also had notable participations, as runners-up in 2012, 2016, 2021.

Qualification for FIFA Futsal World Cup

The 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship will serve as a qualifier for the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024. The four teams from the Concacaf that will qualify for the 24-team tournament in September will be determined by this year’s quarterfinal winners.

Format

For the Group Stage, the 12 teams will be split into three groups of four teams each. After single round-robin play, the group winners, runners-up, and the two best third-place finishers will qualify for the knockout stage which will consist of quarterfinals, semi-finals, and a final, where the Concacaf Futsal champion will be crowned.

The following are the groups for the 2024 Concacaf Futsal Championship group stage:

Group A: Costa Rica, Mexico, Suriname, Haiti

Group B: Panama, Cuba, Canada, Nicaragua

Group C: Guatemala, United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic

Quarterfinals:

  • M19: Group A winner vs. Group B/C third place,
  • M20: Group B winner vs. Group A/C third place,
  • M22: Group C winner vs. Group A runner-up,
  • M23: Group B vs. Group C runner-up

Semifinals: M19 winner vs. M22 winner, M20 winner vs. M21 winner

Third Place: Semifinalist 1 loser vs. Semifinalist 2 loser

Final: Semifinalist 1 winner vs. Semifinalist 2 winner
