MIREBALAIS, Haiti – Cuba defeated Suriname 2-0 at Park Bayas as qualifying in the region for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup resumed Friday with CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup first round, Group 4 play.
Rachel Pelaez Ellis converted a penalty kick in the 62nd minute for the first goal of the game and Yoana Calderon Gonzalez added an insurance tally with seven minutes left in regulation.
Host Haiti will open its schedule on Sunday against the Surinamese.
The group winner will advance to Caribbean’s final round in August with berths to the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship at stake.
