SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rica will host Uruguay in an international friendly on September 8 at the Estadio Nacional, the Federación Costarricense de Fútbol announced Thursday.

It will be the third meeting between the sides within the last 15 months.

The current Central American champion defeated Uruguay 3-1 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Joel Campbell, Oscar Duarte and Marco Ureña each netting once in a winning effort.

On November 13, 2014, visiting Costa Rica prevailed 7-6 on penalties after their friendly at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo ended in a 3-3 draw. Alvaro Saborio, Bryan Ruiz and Johan Venegas scored for the Ticos.

The Costa Ricans, who are currently competing in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, will use the match as preparation for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying, which is expected to start for them in November.
