Mexico takes aim at World Cup against El Salvador

BRADENTON, Florida Mexico can punch its ticket to the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup with a victory on Friday against El Salvador on the second matchday of Group H of the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship Qualification Stage.

With a win in its Group H debut, El Tricolor will have three points and guarantee a spot in next summer’s Under-20 World Cup in Poland.

Meanwhile, after a 1-0 loss to Panama on Tuesday, El Salvador will be seeking three points in order to keep its World Cup hopes alive.

Mexico arrives into the contest brimming with confidence after finishing in first place in Group B in a toe-to-toe battle with Jamaica that went down to the wire, with Mexico’s superior goal difference serving as the tiebreaker.

Jose Macias has been the star for Mexico, as he leads the CU20 in scoring with 10 goals.

But El Salvador has showed plenty of fight in the tournament and opponents have learned that it takes a special strike to get the better of sensational GK Rodrigo Artiga.

Should Mexico emerge victorious, it will clinch its 16th World Cup appearance.
