Alfaro brace leads Mexico to record 15th Concacaf U-20 Championship title

Mexico defeated the United States 2-0 in the Final to claim its second consecutive and record 15th Concacaf U-20 Championship title.

MEXICO CITY – The 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship concluded on Sunday with Mexico clinching a second consecutive title with a 2-0 victory over the United States in the Final at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, Mexico.

The hosts took the lead in the 28’, with Cristóbal Alfaro finding the back of the net with a header at the left post on a set piece opportunity.

The U.S. was reduced to 10 players late in the first half when Chris Applewhite was shown a red card.

Alfaro doubled Mexico’s lead in the 69’, capitalizing on a defensive mistake and striking with a header from inside the penalty area to complete his brace and seal the victory.

With the result, Mexico won the Concacaf U-20 Championship for a second consecutive edition, claimed a record 15th title, and secured qualification for the men’s football tournament at the 2028 Summer Olympic Games.

Both Mexico and the United States had already secured qualification for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan by reaching the Semifinals.
