MONTE PLATA, Dominican Republic It was a busy day in 2020 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying, with 12 teams in action in three different groups.

Group B opened play with Grenada topping Dominica 3-1. Chiesa Clyne (13’) gave Grenada a 1-0 lead, only for Coann Lockhart (37’) to equalize 1-1. But scores from Kevon Maitland (42’) and Rondel Richardson (87’) sealed the three points for the Spice Boys.

In the second match of the group, hosts Dominican Republic rolled to a 6-0 triumph over Anguilla.  Franklin Rodriguez (20’, 35’) and Jesus Rosas (29’, 45+2’) each had braces, while Dennis Valdez (64’) and Joel Sanchez (79’) tacked on goals.

Group D saw the closest contests on the day, starting with Barbados downing Bermuda 3-2. Luciano Swan (22’, 72’) had a brace for Bermuda, but it was not enough against a Barbados side who got a brace themselves from Thierry Gale (68’, 86’) and a goal from Nigel Griffith (33’).

In the group’s other game, group hosts Puerto Rico used a second half surge to power past Cayman Islands 4-2. Goals from Alex Diaz (29’, 90+2’) sandwiched scores from Alejandro Rabell (69’) and Jan Carlos Mateo (87’), while Corey Smith provided the scoring for the Cayman Islands with a brace (66’, 90+3’).

The third matchday of Group A led to the first draw in CU20 Qualifying, with the U.S. Virgin Islands and Montserrat playing to a 1-1 final. Arthbert Williams (45’) tallied for USVI, while Lewis Duberry (53’) scored for the Emerald Boys.

The day was then capped by group hosts Nicaragua charging to their third straight win in a 2-0 final over Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Harold Medina (35’) and Edgard Castillo (88’) handled scoring duties for the Pinoleros.
