Dominican Republic, Cayman Islands collect big wins at CU20 Qualifying

MONTE PLATA, Dominican Republic 2020 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying was back in action on Friday with games from Group A, Group B and Group D.

Beginning in Group B, hosts Dominican Republic earned a 2-0 win over Dominica. Josue Baez proved to be the hero of the day for the home side with a brace (52’, 90’).

Grenada picked up their second straight win in CU20 Qualifying, posting an impressive 7-0 triumph over Anguilla. Benjamin Ettienne scored a brace (40’, 59’), while Chiesa Clyne (42’), Christian James (52’), Jayden Gibbs (65’), Kevon Maitland (81’) and Brady Charles (84’) added goals.

Cayman Islands are right back in the mix in Group D, as they earned their first win in CU20 Qualifying in a 2-1 comeback final against Bermuda in Bayamon.

Luciano Swan (45’) had Bermuda feeling good at halftime, but a second half rally from Cayman Islands saw Syrus Conolly (53’) and D-andre Rowe (90+3’) score to get the win.

In the group’s other match Barbados powered past group hosts Puerto Rico 4-0. Thierry Gale (5’), Tyrique Belle (10’), Nigel Griffith (31’) and Niall Reid-stephen (68’) handled scoring duties for Barbados.

In Group A, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines confidently marched to all three points in a 5-1 final over Montserrat in Managua, Nicaragua.

Two own goals from Montserrat’s Ahijah Daley (3’, 54’), plus goals from Alpheus Medica (11’), Joel Quashie (47’) and Jahiem Pompey (66’) outweighed Montserrat’s lone score from Lewis Duberry (39’).

Rounding out the action in the group was Guyana and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with the Golden Jaguars downing USVI 2-0 on goals from Omari Glasgow (54’) and Nicholas Mc Arthur (59’).
