SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Football in Mexico will reach another momentous achievement on Friday, when a trio of referees from the country will officiate the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final between Japan and Spain.

Center referee Lucila Venegas will be joined by Enedina Caudillo (assistant referee 1) and Lixy Enriquez (assistant referee 2) in an encounter that will be played at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica.  The fourth official is Marianela Araya of Costa Rica.

Venegas was in the middle for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup semifinal that pitted host Japan against Germany in Tokyo.

Fellow Mexican Quetzali Alvarado has also refereed important FIFA-related matches recently.  At the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Alvarado was in charge of the quarterfinal match between host Germany and Japan in Wolfsburg.  She also worked the France-Japan semifinal at the 2012 Olympic Football Tournament.
