AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico – Mexico continued preparations for the defense of its Olympic gold medal with a 1-0 win over Nigeria in an under-23 friendly on Saturday at a rainy-soaked Estadio Aguascalientes.

Marco Bueno scored the only goal in the 66th minute, when he headed home from four-yards out off a Carlos Cisneros cross from the right side of the box.

In a game of limited chances, Erick Torres produced two of the best for Mexico in the first half, but he shot wide of the right post in the 37th minute and then struck it just before halftime.

Angel Zaldivar nearly scored for the host in the first minute, only to see goalkeeper Emmanuel David make an outstanding save at the left post. The 22-year-old striker also hit the crossbar with five minutes remaining in normal time.

The Tricolor will open Rio 2016 play on August 4 against Group C rival Germany.
