Mexico Named Host of 2026 U-20 Championship

Miami, FL – Concacaf has announced that Mexico will serve as the host country for the 2026 edition of the Concacaf U-20 Championship, running from from July 24 to August 9.

“The Concacaf U-20 Championship represents a crucial step in the development pathway for the next generation of talent across the region, and we are delighted to stage the tournament in a country as passionate about football as Mexico. With qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup and the LA Summer Olympics on the line, we expect a highly competitive tournament,” said Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani.

“We are grateful to the Mexican Football Federation and its Commissioner, Mikel Arriola, for their commitment and look forward to delivering a premier tournament experience for both participating teams and fans alike,” added Montagliani.

The 12 teams set to participate in the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship include the six highest-ranked sides in the Concacaf U-20 Rankings as of October 2025 —United States, Mexico, Honduras, Panama, Cuba, and Guatemala—which were pre-seeded directly into the Championship.

They will be joined by Antigua and Barbuda, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Haiti, and Jamaica, all of whom secured their places through the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers, played from February 23 to March 4, 2026.

The tournament – part of Concacaf’s revamped Youth National Team competitions calendar – will also serve as the qualifying competition for the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2027 and the 2028 Summer Olympics Men’s Football Tournament. The four teams that reach the semifinals of the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship will qualify for next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, while the tournament winner will also qualify for the 2028 Summer Olympics. Should the United States—already qualified as host of the Olympics—win the regional competition, the Olympic berth will be awarded to the runner-up.

The official draw for the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Concacaf Headquarters in Miami, FL at 11 a.m. ET. Fans can follow the made-for-TV event on Concacaf’s YouTube channel.

The full match schedule and host venues will be confirmed following the conclusion of the official draw.

DRAW PROCEDURES

The 12 teams participating in the group stage will be split into four pots based on the Concacaf U-20 Rankings. Pots 1 and 2 will include the six teams pre-seeded into the group stage, as follows

• Pot 1 (three highest-ranked teams): United States, Mexico, Honduras
• Pot 2 (three lowest-ranked teams): Panama, Cuba, Guatemala

Pots 3 and 4 will include the six teams that have qualified for the Group Stage via the Qualifiers, as follows:

• Pot 3 (three highest-ranked teams): Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador
• Pot 4 (three lowest-ranked teams): Jamaica, Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda

The three highest-ranked teams will be pre-seeded into positions A1, B1, and C1 of Groups A, B, and C, respectively.

Starting with Pot 1, teams will be placed into Groups A, B, and C according to the order in which they are drawn, with no more than one team from each pot per group. This process will be repeated for each pot to determine the remaining group positions.

In the previous edition of the Concacaf U-20 Championship, also played in Mexico in 2024, Mexico won the title by defeating the United States 2-1 in the Final.
