Mexico defeats Panama, advances to U-20 Championship Semifinals

Mexico secured its place in the Semifinals and qualified for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Puebla, Mexico - The 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship continued on Wednesday with Mexico earning a 4-0 win over Panama in the Quarterfinals at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico.

The defending U-20 champions opened the scoring in the 34’ when Juan Echilvestre elevated to connect with a cross from Edwin Soto and finished with a header.

Hugo Camberos doubled the lead for the hosts in the 57’ converting the rebound after his penalty kick attempt was saved.

Mexico extended its lead in the 75’ when Yohan Orozco scored a towering header off Nelson Cedillo’s corner kick.

Panama was reduced to 10-men in the 81’ after Gino Sasso was shown a straight red card.

Mexico put the finishing touches on the victory in the 88’ as Cedillo delivered again from a corner kick and connecting with Diego Ramírez at the back post.

With the result, Mexico advances to the Semifinals where it will face Canada. The team also secured a place in the 2027 FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
