Concacaf U-20 Championship Preview: Canada, Mexico, and the United States

Mexico set to defend their title, as Canada and the United States join the chase at the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

MIAMI – Ahead of the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship, we take a closer look at the 12 national teams that will compete for the regional title.

Below is a look at the North American participants entering the ninth edition of the Concacaf Men's U-20 Championship.

Hosts and defending champions Mexico, along with the United States, qualified directly for the tournament among the top six nations in the Concacaf U-20 Ranking. Canada secured its place by winning Group F in the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers.

Canada

Canada will make its 26th appearance in the Concacaf U-20 Championship as it pursues a third regional title and a first since 1996. The Canadians are also seeking to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the ninth time.

The Reds earned their place in the tournament by winning Group F in the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Qualifiers with nine points and a 3-1-0 record, winning their first three matches before falling in their final group-stage contest.

Marsel Bibishkov led the way with six goals in four appearances, including a four-goal performance against the U.S. Virgin Islands. Owen Graham-Roache also impressed with five goals, highlighted by a hat-trick against the U.S.V.I.

Mexico

Defending champions Mexico will make their 29th appearance in the competition as they seek to win consecutive U-20 Championship titles for the second time under the current format, adding to their tournament-record 14 titles. El Tricolor will also aim to qualify for a record-extending 18th FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The hosts will look to continue their attacking dominance after leading the 2024 tournament with 122 total shots and 13 goals, finishing as the competition's most prolific offensive side on their way to lifting the trophy.

United States

The United States enters its 27th U-20 Championship after finishing as runners-up in 2024, with its sights set on securing an 18th FIFA U-20 World Cup appearance. The Stars and Stripes will also pursue a fourth regional title after last being crowned champions in 2022.

The U.S. will look to build on another impressive attacking display after leading all teams with 18 goals at the 2024 Concacaf U-20 Championship.
