Canada, Mexico set to clash in U-20 Championship Semifinals

Canada and Mexico will meet again in a new chapter in their rivalry in the U-20 Championship.
MEXICO CITY – The 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship continues as Mexico and Canada face off in the Semifinals on Friday at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City, Mexico.
Canada arrives at the decisive stage after earning a 3-1 win over Jamaica in the Quarterfinals to secure qualification for what will be its ninth appearance at a FIFA U-20 World Cup. A brace by Liam Mackenzie and a goal from Max Vogele led The Reds to victory.
Prior to the knockout stage, Canada won Group C with five points from a 1W-2D-0L record.
Mexico enters with aims of extending its perfect 2026 U-20 Championship record; the tournament hosts completed a perfect Group Stage with three consecutive wins to finish in first place in Group B prior to knocking out Panama with a 4-0 victory in the Quarterfinals.
Strikes from Juan Echilvestre, Hugo Camberos – who is currently tied for the for the lead in the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot with four goals – Yohan Orozco, and Diego Ramírez secured the result for Mexico in the Quarterfinals. The team booked its spot in the 2027 FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan with the win.
The match will be the 16th between the nations in U-20 Championship history. Mexico leads the series with nine wins, while Canada has claimed two victories and four other meeting resulted in draws.
