Canada defeats Jamaica, advances to U-20 Championship Semifinals

Canada scored in extra time to advance to the Semifinals and qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Puebla, Mexico - The 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship continued on Wednesday with Canada earning a 3-1 win over Jamaica in the Quarterfinals at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico.

Canada opened the scoring in the 57’ as Liam Mackenzie beat a few defenders with impressive footwork and struck a left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

Jamaica netted a late equalizer in the 87’ as captain Jahmarie Nolan buried a penalty kick to send the game into extra time.

Canada fought back with a penalty kick of its own in the 94’ as Mackenzie put the team back in the lead and recorded a brace.

Max Vogele put the finishing touches on the win in the 116’ with a well-struck volley into the upper corner.

With the result, Canada advances to the Semifinals where it will face Mexico or Panama. The team also secured a place in the 2027 FIFA Men’s U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
