Toluca to the Champions Cup Final

Deportivo Toluca FC will play its sixth final after defeating Los Angeles FC 5–2 on aggregate.

TOLUCA, Mexico – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continued with Deportivo Toluca FC winning 4-nil against Los Angeles FC in the Second Leg of their Semifinals series, with the Mexican club advancing 5-2 on aggregate, on Wednesday at Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca, Mexico.

With the victory, Toluca advances to the Champions Cup Final for the first time since finishing runners-up in the 2013/14 edition. It will be the club’s sixth appearance in a Champions Cup Final as it searches for its third title.

Toluca will host fellow Liga MX side Tigres UANL on May 30 in the 2026 Champions Cup Final.

LAFC were close to finding the opener with back-to-back opportunities in the 8’. Toluca goalkeeper Luis García made a key save to deny Denis Bouanga’s effort from the right side of the box, before Timothy Tillman was wide of the crossbar on the rebound.

Marcel Ruíz nearly gave Toluca the lead with a powerful attempt from outside the box in the 20’, but the ball was tipped by LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris before bouncing off the left post.

A penalty was called for Toluca at the start of the second half, after Helinho was brought down inside the box. The Brazilian attacker converted the penalty in the 49’ to place the hosts in front, tying 2-2 on aggregate and taking the advantage on away goals.

Everardo López extended the lead for Los Diablos Rojos in the 58’, taking a 3-2 lead on aggregate, with a thunderous left-footed hit from long-range.

Paulinho rounded out the victory for Toluca with a brace in stoppage time, striking inside the box in the 90’+2’ and 90’+4’. The Portuguese forward took his tally to eight goals in six appearances and is now the sole leader in the race for the Top Scorer Award.

  • This next edition of the Concacaf Champions Cup will feature a rematch of the most recent Liga MX final between Tigres UANL and Toluca, where Los Diablos Rojos were crowned champions after a penalty shootout.
