MIAMI – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup delivered memorable moments throughout the Group Stage. Here are some of the top moments from the opening round of this year’s tournament.
Club Olimpia Deportivo completes perfect Group Stage
Club Olimpia finished atop Group C with a perfect 12 points from four matches. The Honduran club joined LD Alajuelense (2023, 2024) and Plaza Amador (2025) as the only teams in tournament history to accomplish that feat. Led by Jorge Benguché in attack, Club Olimpia scored nine goals during the Group Stage while only conceding three.
Alianza FC, L.A. Firpo reach Quarterfinals for first time
Alianza FC and L.A. Firpo made history by reaching the Quarterfinals for the first time, ensuring two Salvadoran clubs will feature in the round for the first time in tournament history. Alianza FC finished atop Group B with nine points, while L.A. Firpo secured second place in Group A.
Benguché, Barrera make history
Club Olimpia’s Jorge Benguché and Real Estelí FC’s Juan Barrera became the only players in tournament history to score in each of the four editions of the Central American Cup.
FC Motagua, LD Alajuelense make it four straight
FC Motagua and LD Alajuelense became the only clubs to advance to the Quarterfinals in each of the tournament’s four editions. The Honduran club finished second in Group D with eight points, while reigning champion Alajuelense topped Group A with nine points.
CD FAS, Mixco, Alianza FC (Panama) get debut wins
Three clubs secured their first victories in the Central American Cup, with Deportivo Mixco and Alianza FC of Panama accomplishing the feat in their debut appearances.
