LD Alajuelense clinches Quarterfinal berth with win over Plaza Amador
Ronaldo Cisneros scores twice as reigning champion LD Alajuelense defeats Plaza Amador to secure its place in the Quarterfinals.
ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – The 2026 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with LD Alajuelense earning a 3-1 win over Plaza Amador in Group A at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
After a scoreless first half, reigning Central American Cup champions LD Alajuelense got on the board in the 49’ when Aarón Salazar sent in a long cross from the right flank and John Ruíz connected with a volley.
Plaza Amador netted the equalizer just two minutes later as Daivis Murillo’s powerful strike from distance deflected off Everardo Rose and past the goalkeeper.
The Panamanian club was reduced to ten men as Jimar Sánchez was shown a straight red card in the 60’ for a handball in the box, leading to Ronaldo Cisneros converting from the penalty spot in the 62’.
Cisneros netted his second of the match in the 79’ as he tapped in a finish at the far post after the goalkeeper deflected a cross from the left side of the box.
With the result, LD Alajuelense advances to the Quarterfinals while Plaza Amador’s tournament comes to a close.
