MIAMI, Florida – The return of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 is on the horizon, with the Final Round set to resume on January 27 for all eight teams.
Among the National Teams in preparation for the upcoming window is the United States, which kicked off a training camp last Friday, January 7 that will run two weeks until January 21 in Phoenix, Arizona.
U.S. Head Coach Gregg Berhalter called 19 players to the camp, which will feature several closed-door scrimmages involving players that will look to cement a spot on the roster for the upcoming WCQ matches against El Salvador at home, Canada away and Honduras at home.
Honduras will also hold a training camp beginning on Monday, January 10 that will include five days of intensive training for 18 players called by Head Coach Hernan Dario Gomez.
Honduras will then travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to face Colombia in a friendly on Sunday, January 16. The Catrachos host Canada and El Salvador before taking on the U.S. in WCQ.
El Salvador have also hit the training field to start the new year beginning last Tuesday, January 5. Head Coach Hugo Perez summoned 34 players to San Salvador for a training period that will last until January 19.
El Salvador will then travel to Toledo, Ohio for another training camp session to ramp up for their January 27 WCQ against the U.S. El Salvador will also travel to Honduras and then host Canada in the upcoming window.
This Tuesday, January 11, will mark the start of Panama’s preparation for January’s WCQs, as Head Coach Thomas Christiansen has called 25 players for a training camp to be held this week at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City.
Following Thursday’s session, Christiansen will name a squad of 20 players that will then travel to Lima, Peru to take on the Peruvian National Team in an international friendly in Lima on January 16.
It will be the final tune-up match for the Canaleros before they begin their WCQ window with Costa Rica away, Jamaica at home and Mexico away.
New Jamaica Head Coach Paul Hall will also have a chance to get a look at his team in action before the resumption of WCQ, as Jamaica will face off against Peru in an international friendly on January 20.
Hall has called 23 players for what will be the Reggae Boyz’s only friendly before their three-match slate of Mexico at home, Panama away and Costa Rica at home.
