SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – El Salvador marched into the Final Round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 with a 2-0 win against Saint Kitts and Nevis at the Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador.
The victory resulted in a 6-0 aggregate triumph for El Salvador in their Second Round series with the Sugar Boyz, and a place in the Final Round of Concacaf WCQ for the first time since South Africa 2010.
El Salvador were in control from the start and took a 1-0 lead in the 24’ when Jairo Henriquez’s cross was met by the stabbing foot of Joshua Perez
El Salvador remained on the front foot and a foul committed on Nelson Bonilla gave the hosts a penalty kick in the 51’, however Bonilla’s effort went over the crossbar, keeping the islanders to within a goal.
The chances kept coming for El Salvador though, through Bonilla and also Gerson Mayen, and the latter finally was able to double the margin with a right-footed finish in the 87’ to round out the 2-0 scoreline.
