MIAMI, Florida – The first window of 2022 Concacaf W Qualifying came to an end on Tuesday night to cap a memorable week of women’s football in the Concacaf region.

Here are the Top 5 moments from the February window.

Group E home to the most goals

There were a lot of goals scored across all six groups, but the home for the most goals was in Group E where Haiti and Cuba enjoyed prolific outings in their two matches. Both sides scored 17 goals across their two games, including a 14-goal performance for Cuba against British Virgin Islands. A total of 38 goals were scored in the group, with Honduras accounting for the other four scores. Needless to say, the group finale between Haiti and Cuba in April will be a must-see.

Six-goal games for Flores and Lee

Speaking of goals, two players had individual performances that stood out from their peers: Cuba’s Yeranis Lee and Nicaragua’s Yessenia Flores. After scoring a goal in Cuba’s opening 3-0 win versus Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Lee then poured in six goals in a 14-0 victory against British Virgin Islands, with three goals in each half. Flores had the lone Nicaraguan goal in their narrow 2-1 loss to Trinidad and Tobago to open qualifying, but then had a banner day with her six goals in a 19-0 triumph over Turks and Caicos Islands, with two goals in the first 45 minutes and four second half goals.

Socarras comes through for Puerto Rico

Karina Socarras is not only Puerto Rico’s most capped player, but she is also the Senior Women’s National Team’s all-time leader in goals and showed her leadership in spades during the Boricuas’ two contests. After finding the back of the net in Puerto Rico’s 4-0 win with Antigua and Barbuda, Socarras delivered an impressive four-goal performance in the 9-0 victory against Anguilla, keeping Puerto Rico right in step with Group A rival Mexico.

Seven thrilling minutes between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Curacao

Pity the fan that walked in 10 minutes late into the Estadio Olimpico Felix Sanchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for Tuesday’s Saint Kitts and Nevis-Curacao match, because that individual missed an incredible start in which three goals were scored in the first seven minutes. Ellie Stokes of Saint Kitts and Nevis started it off in style in the 2’ by scoring a goal from a corner kick, but then just three minutes later Taisha Hansen equalized for Curacao when she pounced on a deflection. Saint Kitts and Nevis would punch right back, however, just 30 seconds later after play resumed with a left-footed rocket that gave Saint Kitts and Nevis a 2-1 lead on their way to a 5-1 victory.

Aruba show character in defeat

Of the teams that were defeated in both games, Aruba were the only side that managed to find the back of the net in both of their contests. An opening match against El Salvador saw the Caribbean side fall 7-1, but it finished on a positive note when Kiomy Luperon Herasme tallied Aruba’s goal in the 90’. Three days later against Barbados, a much-improved Aruba held Barbados in check and were only down 2-1 after Vanessa Susanna’s goal in the 68’. While that ended in a 3-1 win for Barbados, Aruba can take a lot of pride in their improved performances during the window and ability to score a goal in each game.
