MIAMI, Florida – Mexico secured their first victory of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup with an 8-0 final against Dominican Republic in Group A play on Friday night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

Mexico's goals were scored by Nicolette Hernández 12' Jacqueline Ovalle 14', 27' Karen Luna21' Rebeca Bernal 44' Diana Ordóñez 45'+4 Jasmine Casarez 70' Mayra Pelayo 90'+3 who now have four points through two matches. Dominican Republic will search for their first point in their group finale versus Argentina.

Mexico got things going early, with Nicolette Hernandez firing in past Dominican Republic GK Paloma Pena for a 1-0 lead in the 12’.

Two minutes later in the 14’ it was 2-0 thanks to a rocket into the top right corner from Jacqueline Ovalle.

Karen Luna got her goal in the 21’ by steering home a header inside the area to stretch the advantage to 3-0, followed by Ovalle tallying her second of the night in the 27’ with the smoothest of penalty conversions for a 4-0 lead.

Mexico were not done and tacked on another two goals right before the halftime break.

Rebeca Bernal got her goal with a well-placed header across goal that settled into net to make it 5-0. The halftime scoreline then read 6-0 thanks to a sweeping right-footed finish from Diana Ordonez.

Mexico remained in control in the second stanza and extended their lead to 7-0 in the 70’ on a right-footed effort by Jasmine Casarez.

The night was then capped by Mayra Pelayo firing home a left-footed shot in the 90’+3 to complete the 8-0 scoreline.
