Duda Santos on target as Brazil down Colombia

MIAMI, Florida – An early goal from Duda Santos was enough to earn Brazil a 1-0 victory against Colombia in Group B action of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.

Brazil came roaring out of the gates and held a 1-0 lead in the 5’ thanks to Duda Santos, who received a pass in the area from Adriana Leal and poked home past Colombia GK Natalia Giraldo for the score.

The first half remained action-packed with the two sides going at each other with their superb skill and speed. The rematch of the 2022 Copa America Femenina was living up to its billing, making for an intense first 45 minutes.

It was still Brazil maintaining a one-goal lead into the second half and they looked set to add an insurance goal in the 72’ on a breakaway in which Gabi Nunes only had Giraldo to beat, but the Colombian shot-stopper came up with a big stop to snuff out the chance.

Colombia would get a good look at goal in the final minutes through Maria Usme, who latched onto a pass from Linda Caicedo, but sent it well over the crossbar.

The Brazilian defense were solid until the end, nailing down the clean sheet victory to give them six points from two matches.
