Bahamas, USVI battle to scoreless draw to earn first points

MIAMI, Florida – Group C of League C of the Road to W Gold Cup returned to action on Sunday as US Virgin Islands and Bahamas battled to a 0-0 draw at the Bethlehem Soccer Complex in Saint Croix, USVI.

Each side now has one point, USVI after two games and Bahamas through three matches.

It was an even first 45 minutes between the two sides. Bahamas had several looks at goal, including a Janeka Edey shot that sailed just wide of the post, followed by a long-range shot that required a tricky save from USVI GK Levania Lawrence and a mad scramble in front of goal that Lawrence was able to control eventually.

The USVI threatened the Bahamas goal as well, namely Kelsey Montano hitting a hard shot that Bahamas GK Kendi Outten did well to save.

The second half played out in similar fashion, with each team’s attack poking and prodding the opposing defenses, but nothing that ever troubled either goalkeeper.

In the end, no goals could be found as the two sides would settle for a share of the points.
