Miami, FL - After consultation with all of its Central American Member Associations, Concacaf has announced that the two final qualification slots to the new 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup will be awarded to the Central American Leagues of the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf League (SCL) finalist clubs.
The Central American Cup is a key part of the new Concacaf club ecosystem which starts in 2023/24. It will include 20 participating clubs from leagues in Central America, the best six of which will qualify on to the new Concacaf Champions League.
The Confederation had already announced how 18 of the clubs will qualify from Central American leagues into the Central American Cup. This announcement covers the final two qualification spots.
In the case that the 2022 SCL finalist clubs are from the same Central American Member Association, then the second slot will be awarded to the Central American League with the best ranked non-finalist club in the 2022 SCL (based on the competition’s tie breaking procedures).
In the case that one or more finalists are from a non-Central American Member Association, then the slot(s) will be awarded to the Central American League(s) with the best ranked club(s) in the 2022 SCL (based on the competition’s tie breaking procedures).
For clarification purposes, no more than one slot will be awarded to a single Member Association.
