Canada wins, Mexico falls at Four Nations

SHENZHEN, China – The Canada women’s national team completed its title-winning run in the Four Nations Tournament with a perfect 3-0-0 record, defeating host China 2-1 on Thursday at the at the Shenzhen Bao'an Sports Center.
Christine Sinclair, who was named the competition’s Most Valuable Player, scored both of the Canadian goals in the second half.
“Look, it’s just nice to win something,” said Canada head coach John Herdman. “I think Canada has been in this tournament five times and tried before to win it and this is the first time we’ve done it.
“It is nice to win things and get that winning feeling across the team. Just to win, win a trophy, gets 2015 off in the right vein.”
Sinclair’s first goal came via the penalty spot in the 63rd minute and she only had to wait a minute for her second. The Portland Thorns star ran through the middle and collected a superb pass from Desiree Scott, before finding the back of the net with her right foot from 12-yards out. The tallies brought her career international to 151 goals.
Mexico 1, Korea Republic 2
Mexico fell to Korea Republic 2-1 on Thursday at the Shenzhen Bao'an Sports Center
to finish the Four Nations Tournament with a draw and two losses in three outings.
The Koreans took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute through Jeon Gaeul, but Mexico leveled six minutes after the interval. Veronica Charlyn Corral received a pass from Veronica Perez, beat a pair of defenders and found the back of the net with a powerful right-footed shot.

All four nations at this year's competition are currently preparing for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. The Canadians and China PR are in Group A and will meet in the opening match on June 6, while Korea Republic and Mexico are in Group E and Group F, respectively.
