Raga, Glasgow performances among top moments of CNL window

MIAMI, Florida – The September window of the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League delivered many great moments, yet these stood out the most.

Trinidad and Tobago show character in comeback

Only one team in League A came away with six points from two games: Trinidad and Tobago. The Soca Warriors did it in style, too. It is never easy playing away from home in Concacaf, especially in El Salvador, but Trinidad and Tobago were unfazed when they went a goal down against the Cuscatlecos, and rallied to eventually claim a 3-2 win. The Caribbean side sit atop Group A and will feel confident when matches resume in October.

Rodriguez’s super golazo against Grenada

Honduran playmaker Edwin Rodriguez has a knack for scoring beautiful goals in Concacaf tournaments. His strike against Mexico in the Final of the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship is one that comes to mind, but Rodriguez topped that on Tuesday in the 4-0 win against Grenada. A corner kick was played into Rodriguez and, on the fly, he popped the ball up to himself and promptly hammered in a bicycle kick. A superb strike through and through.

Jamaica-Haiti a Caribbean instant classic

Kingston, Jamaica was the setting for one of the most memorable games in League, with Haiti jumping out to an early 2-0 lead against hosts Jamaica, only for the Reggae Boyz to equalize late in the second half. Throughout the contest there were great plays, great saves and thrilling moments, exemplifying the very best that Caribbean football can produce.

Glasgow continues rise with Guyana

Omari Glasgow burst onto the international scene in the 2022-23 CNL with three goals and it is safe to safe that it was not a fluke. Glasgow scored another four goals in this window, with a hat trick in the 5-1 win versus Antigua and Barbuda, followed by a spectacular ‘olimpico’ goal from a corner kick in the 3-2 triumph over Bahamas. For good measure, Glasgow added a pair of assists in this window, making him one of the standout performers.

Saint Lucia, Puerto Rico bring undefeated runs to League B

Saint Lucia and Puerto Rico were the only two teams in the 2022-23 CNL to have completed the tournament with a perfect record, as each went 4W-0D-0L in their games in League C to earn promotion to League B for the 2023-24 campaign. They then continued their winning ways in League B, as Saint Lucia defeated Sint Maarten 5-1 and Saint Kitts and Nevis 2-0 to make it two wins in two games in Group A. Puerto Rico were just as effective, downing Bahamas 6-1 and Antigua and Barbuda 5-0 to open Group D with six points from two games.

Forbes’ trio of assists helps makes history for British Virgin Islands

A player scoring three goals in a game for a hat trick is always very impressive, but just as notable is when a player manages to contribute three assists in a single game. That’s exactly what Tyler Forbes of British Virgin Islands did in his team’s 3-1 victory against Turks and Caicos Islands. Forbes supplied the assist on each goal, helping BVI make history with their first ever CNL victory.

Raga debuts with a splash for Saint Martin

Axel Raga made a huge splash in his international debut with Saint Martin. Not only did he score four goals in a 6-0 win against Anguilla to open the tournament, but he added another goal in the 2-1 comeback victory over Bonaire to lift Saint Martin to the top of League C Group A. Raga scored five goals in the window, not only making him the top scorer in League C, but also the top scorer in the entire tournament.
