Martinique seeking response in Panama rematch

Published on

Fort-de-France, Martinique – Martinique will renew acquaintances with Panama in Group B of League A of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League on Sunday evening, this time at the Stade Pierre-Aliker in Fort-de-France, Martinique.

The two sides met on Thursday night in Panama where the Canaleros rolled to a 5-0 victory. However, Martinique certainly had their fair share of chances and will hope that the support from the home fans will give them that push to apply the finishing touch to some of those scoring opportunities.

One of the Martinique players who came close to scoring for Les Matinino was Cyril Mandouki, who is one of three Martinique players to have registered a goal in the team’s CNL history.

Meanwhile, Panama have enjoyed a superb start to life in the 2022-23 CNL, with two wins while outscoring opponents 7-0.

Both of those wins have come in the comforts of home, making Sunday’s encounter their first road test in the current CNL campaign.

Gabriel Torres entered last Thursday’s match as Panama’ all-time top CNL scorer and added to that total with Panama’s opening goal of the night, giving him three.

No doubt Torres would love to add to that total and help Panama move a step closer to a CNL Finals appearance.

Sunday’s contest will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two countries, with Panama having won the first four and outscoring Martinique 11-0 along the way.
