Glasgow strikes twice to rally Guyana past Montserrat

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic – Two goals from Omari Glasgow were the difference as Guyana overturned an early deficit to win 2-1 over Montserrat and take the top
spot of Group B of League B of the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League at the Felix Sanchez Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Home side Montserrat sent the first warning shots in attack with Brandon Comley and Nathan Pond looking to score in the seventh and 17th minutes, respectively. Nathan Moriah-Welsh had the early attempt for the visitors in the 13th minute.

Montserrat obtained the opening goal 21 minutes into the encounter with an effective team play that began off a Craig Braham cross, from left to right, to Dean Mason. Mason placed
the ball into the box for an incoming Alex Dyer, who then passed back into the center of the box where Adrian Clifton struck it near the penalty marker for the goal.

Both attacks came out a bit more polished for the start of the second half. Clifton had a 50th minute attempt looking to extend the lead, while Guyana’s Neil Danns would answer with a
shot from distance in the 52nd minute on the other end of the field.

The visitors finally broke through on the scoresheet in the 61st minute thanks to a set piece opportunity. It was 18-year-old Omari Glasgow who equalized the encounter with a precise free kick.

The young goalscorer would double his tally just 10 minutes later with two touches inside the box, converting on the setup by Tre Mitford to make it 2-1 to Guyana, a lead they held
until the final whistle.

The victory lifts Guyana to the top of the Group B of League B as the only team from the pack to win its first match following the draw between Bermuda and Haiti.
