Dominican Republic end CNL on high note in win vs. Belize

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Dominican Republic capped off its 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League campaign with a 2-0 victory over Belize, its second win in the competition and second straight match undefeated since the appointment of manager Marcelo Neveleff.

Dominican Republic MF Edarlyn Reyes tried a low left-footed shot from just outside the box that went through a defender’s legs and in for the opener in the 13th minute.

And the lead was doubled on the hour mark, 2-0, as substitute FW Nowend Lorenzo took a pass at the top of the box and sent a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

The Dominican Republic had more chances to grow its lead, but Belize GK Charles Tillett put in a superb showing to keep his nation in the match. In the 35th minute, he denied FW Dorny Romero on a counterattack, coming quickly off his line and making a sliding stop with his legs. In the 55th minute, he once again stopped Romero, this time from a header, and also stopped a follow-up effort from Lorenzo.

The win for the home side sees it draw level in the all-time series with Belize at two matches a piece. Both have five total goals over the course of the four meetings.

Each squad now will turn its attention toward the fall when the next edition of the CNL kicks off and they’re again competing in League B.
