Team Profile

An associate member since 1991 and a full member since 2013, the Martinique men’s national team clearly has staying power.

Les Matinino did what it needed to do to stay in League A of the Concacaf Nations League for the upcoming tournament.

Despite not getting any victories in a group topped by Honduras, three draws, including a 1-1 stalemate in Fort-de-France with Los Catrachos, meant Martinique finished second in their 2019-20 CNL group.

The finish also meant that Martinique was able to participate in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup and kept its place in the top division of the CNL.

The Gold Cup appearance was the third in a row for Martinique and the seventh all-time, with the best-ever result for Martinique a famous run to the quarterfinals in 2002 that ended after Canada pipped the islanders 6-5 in a penalty shootout after playing out to a 1-1 draw at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida.

The 2021 tournament didn’t go as well, with Martinique unable to get a point in a tough group that also included eventual champions United States, Canada and Haiti.

Martinique’s senior women’s national team also qualified for the 2014 Concacaf W Championship after finishing fourth in the first-ever Women’s Caribbean Cup that same year.
