Bio

One of the founding members of Concacaf and a traditional power in Central America, Honduras is known around the region for its might.

Honduras flexed its muscle in the inaugural edition of the Concacaf Nations League, going undefeated in its League A group on the way to the Final Four and falling to the United States in the semifinals, before locking up a third place finish with a win over Costa Rica.

It’s the standard Honduras has set in recent years. After a first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 1982, Honduras didn’t return until South Africa 2010, but followed that up with another successful qualification cycle and a spot in Brazil in 2014.

In addition to its senior national team exploits, Honduras also has become characterized by its success at the Olympic level, with the 2020 Tokyo Games the fourth consecutive tournament featuring Los Catrachos’ men’s U-23 squad. A fourth-place finish in 2016 is the closest Honduras came to a medal. In 2000 and 2008 Honduras won the Concacaf tournament.

The women’s team has participated in five Concacaf W Championships, logging historic victories in 2002 and 2014 and will look to once again participate as Concacaf’s newly restructured women’s competitions.
