TOKYO, Japan The Trinidad and Tobago defense looks primed and ready for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup following a solid 0-0 draw with Japan in an international friendly on Wednesday at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi, Japan.

The goalless draw snaps a three-match losing streak for the Soca Warriors.

Head Coach Dennis Lawrence’s attack showed some creativity in attack and peppered the Japanese goal with an array of shots, including a stinging effort from Kevan George in the 21’ that forced Japan GK Daniel Schmidt into making a big save.

But the star of the day was GK Marvin Phillip and the Trinidad and Tobago defense.

The visitors kept the Japanese attack under wraps for large spells of the game and Phillip was able to seal the result with a trio of superb saves in the second half, including one in second half stoppage time.

Trinidad and Tobago will kick off its 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup campaign in Group D on June 18 versus Panama.
