MIAMI.- For Guadeloupe and Suriname, the 2021 Gold Cup experience is now over sooner than what the teams had hoped for, but both look into what the regional tournament has done for both team’s growth and international experience.

Guadeloupe head coach Jocelyn Angloma, although critical of what his team did wrong and the errors committed that lead to 2-1 fall against Suriname in their last Group C match, he wanted to concentrate on the positive side.

“We showed that we had qualities, but the level requires a lot more and a lot of young, who don't know this high-level play. So, a lot of good things come out of this. So, we wanted to do when at least one match we hope for that but that didn't happen. And we had 10 at the end,” said Angloma.

Although the end result was not what the Guadeloupe boss is hopeful for the team’s future and believes cups like the Gold Cup helps teams like Les Gwada Boys to grow their soccer style.  Angloma and the players were beyond happy of coming back after so many years of being absent and hope to keep coming back consistently to soak up international play.

A similar positive sentiment was shared by Dean Gorré, who pocketed the three points of the match marking a historic win in the country’s tournament debut

“It's a fantastic day for us, to be having our first historical win in a Gold Cup. And this tastes so nice. Although the game we played wasn't the best. But important is that we won, and we take this victory home and come home with pride and build-up for the future,” emphasized Gorré.

Striker Gleofilo Vlijter has given a taste to the world of what Surinamese players can do in the game having. The 21-year-old will go done in history as the player that made Suriname’s first goal in a Gold Cup, and he also scored in the team's first-ever win.

While not content with eliminating din the group state Vlijter is confident of the team’s growth.

“Don't forget that it's our first Gold Cup. That's why we need to learn from this moment is the first time we play on this level. And we're going learn from this and start fresh for the next Gold Cup in two years. We're going to try to qualify and do our thing,” said Vlijter.
