MIAMI, Florida – Concacaf Gold Cup mainstays Trinidad and Tobago can expect a very stiff challenge from a motivated Montserrat side when the two teams square off in the First Round of the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Prelims on Friday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Trinidad and Tobago Interim Head Coach Angus Eve will be leaning on mix of young players and veteran stars to try to guide the Soca Warriors into the Gold Cup group stage.
Among the more experienced players in the mix are MF Kevin Molino, who has 19 international goals, along with fellow MF Khaleem Hyland and DF Aubrey David of Costa Rican giants Deportivo Saprissa.
One of the more exciting young players to keep an eye on in the Prelims will be 17-year-old Molik Jesse Khan, a technically-skilled MF who plays beyond his years.
That blend of youth and experience will be put to the test by a Montserrat side that came achingly close to qualifying for the Gold Cup in 2019.
The Emerald Boys finished second in their group in the First Round of Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for Qatar 2022 and with England-based stars like FW Lyle Taylor of Nottingham Forest, who scored five goals in Montserrat’s four matches in CWCQ, including braces in a 2-2 draw at Antigua and Barbuda and in the 2-1 win at Grenada.
In addition to Taylor, there is DF Donervon Daniels at Crewe Alexandra, Maidenhead United DFs James Comley and Rohan Ince and MF Brandon Comley of Bolton Wanderers, giving Head Coach Willie Donachie a very capable squad.
