ATLANTA, Georgia – Mexico stormed back from an early 1-0 deficit to top Venezuela 3-1 in an international friendly on Wednesday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Vinotinto took an early lead in the 18’ through Jhon Murillo’s long-range effort, but it was just the thing that woke up the El Tricolor attack.
Mexico then countered with a goal of its own in the 32’ when the Venezuelan defense failed to clear a loose ball and Roberto Alvarado pounced to make it 1-1.
The momentum was with Mexico and Rodolfo Pizarro gave Mexico its first lead in the 54’ by hammering home Jesus Gallardo’s cross for a 2-1 advantage.
Captain Andres Guardado then capped the night with a stinging left-footed shot in the 75’ to round out the 3-1 scoreline.
Mexico will return to action on Sunday in its final Gold Cup preparation match versus Ecuador.
