NAGOYA, Japan – Though fatigue from a long trip was a contributing factor, Hernan Medford lamented the errors that led to Honduras’ 6-0 loss at Japan in an international friendly on Friday.
The Japanese, who fell to 4-0 to Brazil last month, struck for three goals in each half. Visiting goalkeeper Donis Escober made a series of outstanding saves to prevent even further damage.
“We played against a Japan side that was superior to us,” said Medford, who was appointed to the managerial post in late July, following the Catrachos’ World Cup exit. “We made mistakes on so many chances against a team that beat us in all their lines. It was an multifaceted team.”
After battling the United States to a 1-1 draw in its last outing on October 14, Medford said he was surprised by Honduras lack of energy.
“We lacked overall attitude,” expressed the 46-year-old. “Today was a Honduran national team that I didn’t even recognize. I didn’t expect this at all, but this is part of football. Today, there was no attitude on the pitch.”
Honduras will look to bounce back on Tuesday in another friendly at China.
