Gold Cup Player Profile: Alan Pulido (Mexico)
One of the keys to Guadalajara’s run to the 2017 Liga MX Clausura title was the play of Alan Pulido. The 26-year-old forward scored a goal in each leg of the final, as Chivas lifted the trophy, 4-3 on aggregate.
Mexico will be hoping he has the same impact on its bid to repeat as CONCACAF Gold Cup champion.
Pulido exploded onto the international scene in 2011, when he struck for three goals to help the Tricolor capture the 2011 CONCACAF Under- 20 Championship crown. Later that same year, he competed in five FIFA U-20 World Cup matches.
In 2012, Pulido and teammate Marco Fabian netted five goals each to be the joint-top scorers at the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship, where Mexico earned a 2-1 victory over Honduras in the decider.
On his full international debut in January 2014, Pulido scored three of Mexico’s four goals in a shutout win over Korea Republic.
At the club level, he has also won league titles with Tigres (Mexico, 2011 Apertura) and Olympiacos (Greece, 2015/16). Pulido also has four career Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League goals – all with Tigres – including three in a 5-0 win over visiting Alajuelense on October 24, 2012.
