SAN JOSE, Costa Rica – Costa Rica and visiting Paraguay played to 0-0 draw in an international friendly on Thursday at the Estadio Nacional.

Though the result extended the Ticos’ unbeaten streak to 13 consecutive games, they failed to score two or more goals in a match for the first time in seven outings.

In an encounter of few clear chances, Yeltsin Tejeda nearly struck in the ninth minute.  The 23-year-old midfielder fired a loose ball from 30-yards out just wide of the right post after teammate Bryan Ruiz embarked on a long run from his own end.

Ruiz nearly gave Paraguay the lead in the 23rd minute by inadvertently re-directing a right-sided cross just past goalkeeper Keylor Navas’ left post.

The host’s best opportunity fell to Oscar Duarte in the 66th minute, but his header at the left post hit the outside netting from three-yards out.

Next up for Costa Rica is a road game against Panama on March 31 at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez.
