World Cup Qualifying resumes Sunday

MIAMI – Qualifying in CONCACAF for the 2018 FIFA World Cup continues Sunday with second round play, when Nicaragua hosts Suriname at the Estadio Nacional in Managua.

Twenty teams will contest ten, two-legged series through June 16 to determine which sides will advance to the next phase.

 The upcoming round consists of one team from North America, four from Central America and 15 from the Caribbean, including St. Vincent & the Grenadines – the recently crowned winner of the 2015 Windward Islands Football Association Men's Championship.

Three of the sides – Canada, El Salvador and Guatemala – will also play in July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

NICARAGUA v SURINAME

1st leg: June 7 (Estadio Nacional – Managua, Nicaragua)

2nd leg: June 16 (Andre Kamperveen Stadion – Paramaribo, Suriname)

  • St. Vincent & the Grenadines won the 2015 Windward Football Association Men’s Championship in May, topping the final table in the four-team tournament with a perfect 3W-0D-0L record.
  • Emerald George (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) was named MVP of the 2015 Windward Football Association Men’s Championship.
  • With four goals, Myron Samuel (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) was the top scorer in the 2015 Windward Football Association Men’s Championship.
  • Guyana reached the third round of 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying
