MEXICO CITY – Mexico head coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich addressed the media on Monday and emphasized the importance of commitment to the World Cup Qualifying effort.
At the start of his first training camp -- as part of preparations for a pair of crucial qualifiers next month -- the former Monterrey chief assembled players solely from LIGA MX.
“I consider, as we mentioned since the beginning, that today we need people committed, there was discussion and that was same message for them, there is no concession for anyone, it is a clean slate,” said Vucetich. “We know that at this moment we do not have any room to fail, so we want to adequately choose the footballers who have the right conviction.”
In regard to potential call-ups for the match against Panama on October 11, Vucetich declared that the past no longer matters and that the task ahead requires players who want the team to succeed.
“For me what’s important is what they do today,” Vucetich noted. “The priority is everyone, there is no priority for anyone specifically. We need committed people that have desire and rhythm.”
For this week’s gathering, Vucetich stressed that he intends to focus more on tactics rather than physical condiioning.
“We have defined times of the tactical work that is going to be implemented, we have six sessions to be able to complete our work,” added Vucetich. “The times are short for us, nevertheless we cannot overdo things, the physical preparation we will leave to the club teams, here we are going to work specifically on tactical and tecnical aspects.”
