PANAMA CITY, Panama – A late goal by Cristhian Stuani proved to be the difference as Uruguay earned a 1-0 win over host Panama in an international friendly on Friday at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez.
For Panama, which captured third place in July’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, the loss extended its winless streak to nine games. Eight of those outings have been decided by one goal or fewer, six of which were 1-1 draws.
Stuani scored the only goal in the 81st minute, heading a Jonathan Rodriguez cross past goalkeeper Jose Calderon.
Uruguay will stay in Central America for a Tuesday meeting at Costa Rica, while Panama visit Venezuela in Puerto Ordaz the same day.
