Honduras seeking World Cup berth against Final-fancying U.S.

BRADENTON, Florida – Plenty will be at stake on Monday when Honduras and the United States face off in the final match of Group G of the 2018 Concacaf Under-20 Championship Qualification Stage.

For Honduras, the primary objective will be a result that cements a spot in next summer’s 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Poland.

The Catrachos will qualify with either a win, draw or a defeat by three goals or less to reach its eighth Under-20 World Cup.

A victory would also send the Central Americans to the CU20 Final, however it will be a tall task against a U.S. side that has been rampant in this tournament with six victories and 43 goals scored and just two conceded.

All that is needed for the U.S. to nail down a spot in the CU20 Final is a victory or a draw, and with three players with at least six goals in the tournament, Ulysses Llanez (7), Alex Mendez (6) and Ayo Akinola (6), the reigning CU20 champions will certainly like their chances of a return trip to the Final.
