El Salvador takes big win against Nicaragua in Women’s U-17 Qualifiers
ALAJUELA, Costa Rica — The Final Round of the 2026 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Qualifiers continued with El Salvadorwinning 4-nil against Nicaragua in Group A on Thursday at Costa Rica Federation Field #1 in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
El Salvador took the lead in the 16’ when Melanie Menjivar converted an opportunity from the penalty spot.
Angie Alvarenga extended the lead in the 26’ with a right-footed shot from outside the box.
The third goal for El Salvador came in the 53’ by Arianna Jones.

The two sides will conclude play on Sunday, March 22. El Salvador will take on Canada, while Nicaragua faces the Dominican Republic.

· Melanie Nicole Menjívar, Arianna Brielle Jones , and Kaylen Sophía Álvarez (SLV ) each scored their first goal in tournament history.
· Angie Valentina Alvarenga (SLV ) reached three goals after previously scoring a brace against Trinidad and Tobago on April 2, 2025 (Group C). Her goal marked the 900th in the history of the Final Round of the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Qualifiers.
· With the win against Nicaragua, El Salvador improved to four consecutive matches unbeaten against Central American opposition (W-2 D-2) and ended a streak of two consecutive draws against teams from the region.
· It was El Salvador’s second 4-0 victory, following the win against Trinidad and Tobago on April 2, 2025, in Group C at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
· Nicaragua suffered its seventh consecutive defeat, the worst streak in its history in the tournament and the worst for any Central American team. It was also their 10th loss in 11 matches played in this stage.
