Chris Richards Scores Fastest Goal in a Final

U.S. defender Chris Richards stunned the crowd at NRG Stadium with a goal just 3 minutes and 31 seconds into the 2025 Final against Mexico. It was the fastest goal ever scored in a Gold Cup Final. The goal also marked a full-circle moment for Richards, who played in Houston during his youth years.

Curaçao earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against tournament contenders Canada for one of the strongest Caribbean performances of the group stage. The result came on June 21 at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, as part of the second round of fixtures in Group B.

Nathan Saliba scored for Canada in the 9’ but Curacao would fight for the equalizer. The tying-goal finally arrived in the 90’+4 by way of Jeremy Antonisse.
